Meet Miles, the Newest Addition to the Convergence Data Team

If you keep an eye on product data management, you've probably noticed that nearly every platform in the space has rolled out some kind of AI agent this year. Ours is called Miles, and we wanted to take a minute to properly introduce them.

We'd like you to meet Miles, the newest addition to the Convergence Data team.

Miles isn't a person, but we're introducing them like one, because that's really how we think about it. Miles is here to help your team get more out of Convergence PIM, our product data management platform. Answering questions, explaining concepts, and pointing you toward best practices, day or night.

And Miles is a lot more than a simple chatbot that tells you how to use the software. Ask about best practices, and Miles doesn't just point you to an article, it gives you real assistance. Want to know what a good motor category looks like, structured the way we'd recommend? Miles will walk you through it, with a real example, not just a general description.

Like any new team member, Miles is still learning the ropes

Right now, Miles knows the platform inside and out, but hasn't been introduced to your specific product data yet. So if you ask Miles about a particular item or dataset, just fill them in. Include the relevant details in your prompt, and Miles will help based on what you share.

Here's what that looks like in practice. Ask Miles "what's missing from my compressor category," and it won't know, not yet. But ask "here's a compressor listing, horsepower and voltage are filled in, what attributes am I missing," and Miles will walk you through it. Same question, different amount of context, and Miles meets you exactly where you are.

Here's what Miles can help with, starting day one

  • Answering questions about using the platform. No more digging through menus to figure out where a setting lives.
  • Guidance on taxonomy, data modeling, benchmarks, and product data best practices, backed by real examples. Drawing on patterns we've seen work across manufacturers, not generic advice.
  • Explaining workflows and recommended approaches. The kind of thing you'd normally ask a colleague who's been using the platform longer than you have.
  • Getting you answers faster than digging through documentation. Ask the question directly instead of searching for the right article.

What it's actually like to talk to Miles

Miles lives in the bottom corner of the platform, ready whenever you need it. Click in, and a panel opens up with a simple prompt: "Ask Miles anything."

New to the conversation? Miles offers a handful of suggested starting points, real questions other users tend to ask, like how to find duplicate SKUs or set best practices for taxonomy development. Click one or type your own.

Miles doesn't just answer, it gives you real assistance. It cites its sources, linking directly to the documentation behind its response, so you can dig deeper whenever you need to verify or learn more. It remembers your past questions too, so if you want to pick up a conversation from last week, it's right there waiting instead of starting over from scratch.

It's built into the modules your team already works in, so there's no separate tool to learn or extra login to remember. Just a panel that's there when you need it.

So why introduce Miles this way?

We could have given Miles full access to customer data from day one. We didn't, on purpose. Just like you wouldn't hand a new hire the keys on their first morning, we think trust with data should be earned, not assumed.

That's a different approach than a lot of what's shipping across the industry right now. We'd rather Miles get comfortable with the platform and your team first, the same way any new hire would, before it starts working directly with the data your business runs on.

This release is Miles getting to know the platform and your team. The next one is Miles getting to know your data.
